Box office report : Top 5 Malayalam movies


Here is the top 5 grossers from the Malayalam film industry for the last month (May) :

1) Seniors : This out and out comedy entertainer featuring Jayaram, Kunchakko Boban, Manoj K Jayan and Biju Menon in the lead is now all set to become a Megahit at the Kerala Box office. This new film Seniors, directed by Vyshakh and scripted by Sachi-Sethu, that completed 30 days in almost all the major releasing centers is still doing an extra ordinary business and thus can be rated as the numero uno of Malayalam film industry for the last month.

2) China Town : This multi starrer movie featuring Mohanlal, Jayaram and Dileep in the lead turns out to be the second highest earner from Kerala Box office for the last month. This film, scripted and directed by Rafi Mecartin can be termed as a complete package of a modern day mass masala movie. China Town, which completed 50 days, is still doing a descent business all across the state and is sitting steady at the number 2 spot.

3) Urumi : Technically brilliant as well as visually extravagant historical movie Urumi, directed by noted cinematographer Santhosh Sivan is at the number 3 position. This film Urumi, that featues Prithviraj in the lead role was also been produced by him. This film, that completed 70 days is still doing a note worthy business at the major cities and also in some of the B & C centers of the state.

4) Manikyakallu : Yet another Prithviraj starrer is there among the top grossers from Kerala Box office for the last month. This new Prithviraj starrer was directed by M Mohanan of 'Kadha Parayumbol' fame. Though the movie is continuing in some of the major centers, the collection is only average, but it is steady at now mainly due to the good response generated by the movie.

5) Christian Brothers : Yet another multi starrer movie featuring Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Jayaram and Tamil star Sarath Kumar in the lead is in the list. The film that completed around 85 days at the Kerala Box office has taken a breath taking opening which set a new record for the highest initial achieved by a film ever in the history of Malayalam cinema. Though the film has been replaced from almost all the major centers, it did some descent business at the B & C centers to get into this chart.

Some other movies like Mammootty's The Train, Jayasurya's Janapriyan and Telugu star Ram Charan Teja's dubbed film Dheera have been released during the month of May and are waiting themselves to get into this chart by the end of next month.
